Welcome to the magnificent island of flores! Flores boast breathtaking scenery, spectacular volcanoes, hot springs, with black, white, or even pink sand. Back in the day, the Portuguese appreciated the splendor of the place by naming it Flores, meaning “flower”.
The two most famous attractions are the national parks of komodo, home of the dragon and Kelimutu, with its three fabled, brightly colored crater lakes.
Flores belongs to the lesser sunda island in the southeast of the indonesian archipelago. it is part of Nusa Tenggara Timur Provice (NTT) and divided into eight administrative districts, or kabupaten from west to east:
- Manggarai Barat
- Manggarai Timur
- Flores Timur
The most prominent of Flores inhabitants most certainly is the komodi dragon. It is restricted to the islands of Komodo, Rinca, some satellite islands, and to a lesser extent to some parts of west flores. This enigmatic creature is the largest lizard on earth. Every year thousands of tourist travel to komodo national park to catch a glimpse of the dragon in its natural habitat. But there is much more in this area that just the komodo dragon.
